We’re excited to announce that 2FA (Two Factor Authentication) is now available within Signagelive.
Q: What is 2FA?
A: One of the most effective ways to protect your data, 2FA – also sometimes referred to as “multi-factor authentication” or “two-step verification” – works by adding an extra layer of security to your account. A two-step authentication process requires your password and username, as well as a second login credential, which you must access via a mobile device, key, or authentication app.
Compatible with all the most popular authentication apps, such as Google Authenticator and Authy, the Signagelive two-factor authentication, once enabled, requires users to download one of these applications to their mobile phone device via the QR code that’s shown on the user interface. Once they’ve set up their authentication (this could be by a code or thumbprint depending on the service you use) any users who have access to control the 2FA process can configure how often the user must verify via 2FA (i.e. once every 2 days, 10 days or 30 days).
Q: Why do I need 2FA? Are passwords not enough?
A: With the ever-increasing rise in cyber attacks, even the strongest passwords are less secure. Major data security breaches have led to passwords and emails being sold on the dark web, inevitably leading to more hacks. Passwords are particularly vulnerable, as they are often used by users across multiple accounts. More elaborate cyber scams are also on the rise, with 60% of businesses reporting that they experienced some form of phishing or social engineering attacks in 2019 alone.
With 2FA, you can instantly strengthen your data security, and according to a 2019 report from Microsoft, block up to 99.9% of automated attacks. By enabling 2FA on your network, you can be sure that anyone who accesses your data has been given permission to access the platform.
2FA is just another feather in the cap for the ever-expanding security benefits that Signagelive offer which now includes Granular User Permissions, Single Sign on, Approvals, GDPR compliance, regular Penetration testing, and ISO27001 certification, making us one of the most secure Digital Signage platforms in the market.
2FA can be enabled for specific user groups, individual users or network-wide if you prefer. Network users who have correct access will also have the ability to remove or allocate the 2FA requirement without other users being able to alter this feature. Moreover, the Users with this control can “unlock” the 2FA feature for a period of time (between 5 minutes to 60 minutes depending on your preference). This is ideal in case your user needs quick access but doesn’t have access to their 2FA device (such as a mobile phone).
