What is GDPR?

GDPR is a new EU regulation which has been designed to update the existing Data Protection Directive and is enforceable from 25 May 2018 onwards. The existing directive was established in 1995, which was before the days of widespread internet use, which has fundamentally changed the way we create, use, share, and store information.

As well as updating data protection, GDPR is also being introduced to improve data privacy and security. The existing framework had the flexibility to be implemented by EU member states as they saw fit, resulting in quite different approaches to data protection across Europe. GDPR is a regulation and must be followed much more rigidly.

What Signagelive is doing to prepare for GDPR

The first step for Signagelive is solely focused on ensuring the ‘Awareness’ of the law change coming for May 2018. We have created a project team and a dedicated channel to assist with covering this requirement, as a place to discuss the project and to assign tasks.

We will be evaluating the personal/sensitive data we store about our customers/employees across the various tools we use. Then the next step is around ‘Communicating privacy information’ to our customers.

Why is it important?

Changes under GDPR are aimed at moving companies away from a tick-box compliance attitude, to the security and privacy of personal information, and towards a company-wide approach to managing the lifecycle of personal data.

We will ensure that Signagelive adheres to the upcoming changes. If you have any queries, or would like to learn more about Signagelive solutions and to discuss your digital signage requirements, please get in contact with us.
