What is a BrightSign device and how do I use it?
In this guide, we’re going to cover everything you need to know about BrightSign. From hardware, what it can be used for, what it’s great at and when to use it.
What is a BrightSign player?
A BrightSign player is a purple, small form factor device that’s used across the globe to power digital signage projects. BrightSign was founded in 2002 and is located in Los Gatos, California. Since then, they have built and sold over 2 million affordable and (importantly) reliable hardware devices for a range of digital signage projects.

Now updated with BrightSign Series 5 details
From November 2022, BrightSign will be rolling out its latest hardware offering, the BrightSign Series 5. This article has been updated to include new information and features.
BrightSign Series 5 is designed to elevate the digital signage experience. The range’s XD5 and XC5 models offer an even more robust set of features that we’ll dive into at the top of this article.
The Series Five models currently include the AU5, XD5 and XC5. However, for digital signage purposes, we’ll be focused on the XD5 and XC5, as the AU5 is an audio-only player.
The XD5 (Standard or Expanded I/O) (Starting at $600 for Standard and $700 for the Expanded I/O version)
The intended successor of the XD4, the XD5 has dynamic memory allocation to support optimised motion graphics performance. It allows for even faster, smoother and responsive content. With the ability to display 4K60p, the XD5 is a big leap forward in technology for BrightSign’s already impressive offering.
Perfect for: The XD5 is perfect for anyone who wants a reliable 1-output digital signage player to run more heavy-duty content, such as 4k video or intense HTML5 with animation. The XD5 is perfect for future-proofing your digital signage and all BrightSign devices support the ability to provision your devices at scale with Signagelive and B-deploy.

The XC2055 or XC4055 (Starting at $1200 for XC2055 or $1700 for XC4055)
Features
The XC5 Series Media Players offer multiple HDMI outputs, which is perfect for video wall creation. This removes a lot of potential problems and added expense by including all the requirements in one device. The XC5 range offers two or four output player options, which allow you to display content in either 8K or 4K.
Perfect for: Ideal for big-impact, high-resolution multi-screen showcases, both versions of the XC5 devices are designed specifically with video walls in mind. The XC4055 offers the utmost flexibility, enabling you to create 8K multi-screen displays, using either the single 8K output player option, or by connecting four 4K screens through the quad output module.
As all the BrightSign Series 5 devices work in exactly the same way as other BrightSign models, you won’t need any new training to use them. When you pair these players with Signagelive, you also won’t need to invest in any separate content management system for high-resolution multi-screen displays. With Signagelive, you can manage your 8K and/or 4K video wall campaigns, as well as content for the rest of your network, all from the same platform.
